Translators’ and Interpreters’ Organizations

 

Asociación Española de Traductores, Correctores e Intérpretes (ASETRAD)
ASETRAD engages in legal, tax, insurance and professional assessment for translators and interpreters, organizes seminars and continuing education programs, and publishes articles of professional interest.

Associação Portuguesa de Tradutores (APT)
This is an association for the defense and promotion of the translation profession and of the Portuguese language.

Associazione Italiana Traduttori e Interpreti (AITI)
Established in 1950, the Associazione Italiana Traduttori e Interpreti (AITI) is a non-profit organization for translators and interpreters professionals. The AITI is a charter member of the Fédération Internationale Des Traducteurs (FIT), a non governmental organization with official connections to the UNESCO for consultation. The FIT is formed by another sixty national translators and interpreters associations.

Bundesverband der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer (BDUE)
BDÜ is the largest professional association of translators and interpreters in the Federal Republic of Germany. It represents the interests of all professionals who have been admitted as members, based on their qualifications. BDÜ is a member of Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (FIT).

Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC)
CTTIC promotes the training of qualified language professionals through its member bodies, which co- operate with provincial and territorial educational institutions offering programs in translation, terminology, interpretation and related areas. CTTlC represents the interests of its members at the national level in matters such as copyright for translators and relations between the federal Translation Bureau and other government departments.

Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI)
The Institute of Translation & Interpreting was founded in 1986 as the only independent professional association of practicing translators and interpreters in the United Kingdom. It is now one of the primary sources of information on these services to government, industry, the media and the general public. With its aim of promoting the highest standards in the profession, ITI serves as a meeting place for all those who understand the importance of translation and interpreting to the economy and society, particularly with the expansion of a single European market of over forty languages and the growth of worldwide communications. ITI offers guidance to those entering the profession and advice not only to those who offer language services but also to their customers.

Organización Mexicana de Traductores (OMT)
The Organización Mexicana de Traductores is an association that brings together Mexican translation professionals. This association regularly organizes seminars and training courses mainly targeted to translators, interpreters, linguists, lexicographers and education professionals in several fields like the translation of legal texts or terminology.

Société française des Traducteurs (SFT)
The Société Française des Traducteurs is the national trade association for professional translators in France. It gathers approximately 900 translators (freelancers and in-house) and interpreters (freelancer and in-house) also including several legal experts. The SFT pursues an active information policy focused on members, customers and future professionals. It helps translators in various aspects related to the exercise of their profession.

The Institute of Linguistics
The Institute serves the interests of professional linguists throughout the world and acts as a respected language assessment and accredited awarding body. Founded in 1910, the Institute now has around 7,000 Fellows, Members and Associate Members.
